Supporting LGBTQ+ Youth is easy! Here’s how to quickly plan a great Pride 2021 Fitness class

. 2 min read

I'm Lesley from team Moxie. If you're anything like me, you've found yourself wondering how straight allies can most appropriately participate in Pride. Have no fear, I've put together these handy tips to help all of us join in and share our true colors together!

The first rule of Pride is: be who you are. Seriously. Pride is all about inclusion, which is also one of our core values at Moxie. So, don't worry about being something your not. Don't worry about messing it up. You won’t. Just come as you are and celebrate your friends and colleagues for who they are.

For all the allies out there:

Pride month is for everybody! Pride is a great moment to embrace your curiosity, learn more about the LGBTQIA+ community, and better support the gay, lesbian, trans and non-binary folks in your life. Here are some tips from Youth Engaged 4 Change on how to be an authentic Pride ally.

Still not sure how to get started with your Authentically Proud class? Just remember these four things:

  1. Keep it simple. Whether it is HIIT, yoga, or a dance party—we want you to teach a class that feels good to teach!
  2. Music. Incorporating music from LGBTQ+ artists and musicians is a great way to set the tone for your class. No time to dig though Spotify? No worries! We’ve got the ultimate Moxie Pride Playlist created by Grammy Award Winner David Audé.
  3. Inclusivity. Your effort in using inclusive language and understanding how to address everyone in class is important and appreciated. It’s ok if you don’t get it right at first. That’s part of learning! To read more about creating inclusive spaces for trans and non-binary students, click here.
  4. FUN. Last but not least, have fun! Get creative, dress up in Pride inspired attire or fill your space with supportive decor and flags. Don’t forget to celebrate.

Supporting The Ali Forney Center

Remember that you’re teaching to support a great cause. The Ali Forney Center’s mission is to protect LGBTQ+ youths from the harms of homelessness and empower them with the tools needed to live independently.

After class, donate all proceeds here. Moxie will donate $10 for each existing client and $25 for each new client who attends your Authentically Proud class.
